Out of all the pests that we deal with at Senske one of the most interesting and intimidating is the Arizona Bark Scorpion. We deal with this scorpion in Las Vegas, although it is not originally from the area. This scorpion was imported through palm trees from other areas, and is starting to become a major problem in the city.

There are around 23 species of scorpions common to Las Vegas, with Arizona bark scorpions now becoming one of the most common. These scorpions are an issue for home owners because they are one of the most venomous scorpions in America, and are starting to be found more and more in homes.

Arizona bark scorpions are a yellowish color and around three inches long. They moved into to Las Vegas by hiding in palm trees that were brought into the city for landscaping. Like most scorpions, bark scorpions are nocturnal and hunt for small insects and other scorpions at night. This is the best time to find them because they will glow under the light of a black light. Because they like dark areas it’s also a good idea to wear gloves whenever home owners are working in darker areas such as a garage or attic.

Scorpion On RockBark scorpions have most of their interactions with human during the spring and fall months when they are more active due to mating. Their venom can cause extreme pain in adults, and in some cases can cause difficulty breathing, seizures, and eventually death.
